SafeTALK Suicide Awareness Program

Date Posted: Wednesday, 25 April 2012
Posted By: Christine

Lifeline is now offering a suicide awareness 1/2 day program to Central Coast community and corporate organisations.

SafeTALK is a half-day presentation which aims to increase suicide awareness and alert people to the fact that someone around them may be having thoughts of suicide.

Often people thinking of suicide siganl their distress, however those around them do not pick up on them or do not know what to say to help them.

This session will discuss how to identify clues that someone contemplating suicide may disclose, what you can do for that person and where to refer them through for further help.

As a community, the more people trained in being alert to suicide, the more lives we may be able to save. This will result in a suicide safer community.

Sessions will be held on our premises or can be offered at your workplace.

Please contact the Lifeline office on 02 4323 6105 or email trainercc@lifelinecentralcoastnsw.org for further enquiries.

2012 Steel Magnolia Luncheon Awards March 2nd

Date Posted: Wednesday, 11 January 2012
Posted By: Christine

Steel Magnolia Awards

This will be the 6th year that these Awards have been held on the Central Coast.  These awards recognise Central Coast (NSW) women and young persons who, in overcoming personal adversity and making a positive change in society, inspire others to make a difference in their local community.

The idea of the Steel Magnolia Awards originated from the Lifeline centre in Newcastle. Steel recognizes the aspect of strength in our female nominees while the concept of Magnolia draws attention to the softer more gentle side of these inspirational women.

We are inviting you to be a part of this annual fundraiser, featuring guest speaker  champion surfer Layne Beachley.   Monies raised go towards Suicide Awareness and Prevention programs.
