Lifeline’s Big Book Fair

A huge thank you to all those who helped make the Autumn 2012 Lifeline Big Book Fair a huge success. Close to 5,000 people attended the three day event held at the new venue Illawarra Sports Stadium, Berkeley. An incredible $106,154 was raised, the profits of which will go toward supporting Lifeline South Coast.

In preparation for the event, our hardworking volunteers sorted, priced and packed more than 70,000 books for the event. As usual, they were displayed in over 50 categories including fiction; non-fiction; reference; hobbies; travel; children’s books; art; science; literature; history; biographies; old, rare or just interesting.

Thank you also to the hardworking event volunteers who gave their time to ensure the event ran smoothly from the point the first pallet of books came off the truck to the time the last table was packed away. Our customers regularly comment on what a friendly group of people they are – and they are right!

We would again like to thank our ongoing sponsors and supporters who continue to provide us quality services, venues, products and benefits all at wonderfully reduced prices or no cost at all. They include:

Volunteering can be a valuable and enriching way to spend your spare time. It can be a great way to develop your skills or return to the workforce. You can meet new people and contribute to the community.

Educational tools

Lifeline South Coast has developed a video program for young people called Help's On Hand - Reach out and grab it!. This program has been designed as a resource that fits within the MindMatters and Crossroads secondary school programs.

Research shows that around 90% of young people tell their peers rather than a professional about their distress. Unfortunately, friends may be poorly equipped to handle the difficult situations, often compounding the problem. This important education package will reinforce to young people that it’s much easier to nip problems in the bud - before their problems become overwhelming

help is on hand photo

The Help's On Hand - Reach out and grab it! video program was designed and written in conjunction with the NSW Department of Education and Training as a resource that fits within the Stage 5 outcomes of the PDHPE syllabus and also support the MindMatters and Crossroads programs.

It is available for $35 (inc GST) by phoning the administration office on 02 4228 1311.
