Telephone Crisis Supporters
Every day across Australia, Lifeline is recruiting and training Volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporters. Lifeline South East (SA) Inc. run two courses per year at the Centre in Mount Gambier. A new National Training Course has commenced across Australia in 2010.
The course (face to face and e-learning modules) covers:
- Introduction to Telephone Counselling
- Self Awareness
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
- Lifeline Practice Model
- Grief and Loss
- Relationship Issues
- DiVeRt
- Child Protection Issues
- Addiction Theory
- Mental Health Theory
- Answering the Call
- Applying ASIST
- Organisation Protocols
- Community Issues
There are information and registration sessions at the beginning of each course.
A contribution of $220 toward the cost of the training program is required and an ongoing commitment to fulfil the shifts needed to maintain a 24 hour service.

Additional Opportunities
In addition to the initial training, you may choose to complete a Certificate IV in Telephone Counselling Skills. Recognised nationally under the Australian Training and Qualifications Framework (ATQF) the Cert IV in Telephone Counselling Skills may assist with employment, tertiary studies and personal/professional development.
