Lifeline has been recognised as a vital service and the importance of telephone
counselling affirmed by the Australian Government through funding to assist with
the refurbishment and upgrade of telephone and computer systems.
Ms Dawn Smith CEO of Lifeline Australia said “We, along with Kids Help Line,
are delighted with the announcement. Lifeline receives over 1200 calls each day.
This money will enable us to implement the very latest in technology so we can
continue to meet the ever-growing demand.”
Lifeline provides services including 24 hour telephone counselling from over 40
centres in 60 locations. Over half are in regional or rural Australia. Lifeline
provides a range of services based on the needs of the local community. Typically
offered are face to face counselling, gambling and financial counselling, family
services suicide prevention training.
The timing of this announcement coincides with the launch of Lifeline’s National
Appeal. The business and wider community are encouraged to follow the

There are more than 200 Lifeline shops and outlets across Australia. Most of these outlets rely on volunteers to assist with storing goods, driving trucks, serving stores or repairing broken items for sale.
