OAM for Lifeline Australia President

Recently the Governor-General announced that Lifeline’s National Board President Mr Scott Clifford Grimley was amongst the 719 Australian to be honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honour List 2004.

Mr Scott Grimley received a Medal (OAM) for service to the community, particularly through Lifeline. Scott has a long history with the organisation having held several positions with Lifeline over the last 16 years. He has been a member of the National Board since 1992 and President since 1997. Scott was also Chairman of Lifeline Cairns Region for ten years and in that time was Chairman of the Lifeline State Council Queensland (Northern Regional Council) from 1992 to 1996.

During his involvement with Lifeline, Scott has exhibited sincere commitment to the community, offered the organisation clear leadership and shown consistent concern for all Lifeline volunteers and staff. A true communicator, Scott works diligently to ensure open communication between National Board, staff and centres. He acts as a mentor using his many years of management expertise to great advantage. This expertise has enabled other people to flourish in their professional development.

“I am very proud of my associated with this organisation,” said Scott Grimley, “Lifeline is a vital service which provides a range of services to the community including the 24 hour telephone counselling service 13 11 14. It is indeed an honour to receive this award and to serve my community as a Lifeline volunteer.”

Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker started Lifeline in Sydney, in 1963. Within its first day of operation it received over one hundred calls for help. Lifeline now operates 42 Centres throughout Australia and collectively receives over 1200 calls each day.
