Did you know that Lifeline nationally answers more than 1200 calls a day from Australians needing support on its 24 hour phone counselling service? That is more than 500,000 calls every year that our dedicated volunteers take time to listen to.
We need your help! With greater support, we can recruit and train more dedicated volunteers to ensure that more calls are answered on our 24 hour phone counselling service in 2007.
Did you know that at least 30 of these calls each and every day to Lifeline are people calling us with thoughts of suicide? That that is more than 10,000 calls every year that our dedicated volunteers provide unconditional support for.
Did you also know that our 42 Lifeline Centres around Australia have to fundraise more than 80% of their operating costs each year, just to ensure they have accommodation and phone rooms to operate from?
Whilst the community is showing support by attending our bookfairs, or buying items from our 250 second hand goods shops around the country – the money we raise is simply not keeping up with the demand for our phone service.
We need your help! With greater support, we can recruit and train more dedicated volunteers to ensure that more calls are answered on our 24 hour phone counselling service in 2007.

Each year in Australia over 2000 people die by suicide – 20% more than the national road toll. Every one of these 2000 people is someone's son, daughter, sister, brother, mother, father or friend.
Most people at risk of suicide will respond positively to those who can offer support in their time of need. Lifeline provides people thinking of suicide with hope, and those affected by suicide with care and support.
Each year in Australia over 2000 people die by suicide – 20% more than the national road toll. Every one of these 2000 people is someone's son, daughter, sister, brother, mother, father or friend.
Research shows that about 40 times more people make a suicide attempt, and that around 1 million Australians have thoughts of suicide, in any on year. Most people don’t want to die, but they do want the unbearable pain they are feeling to stop.
Lifeline seeks to understand individual's pain and works to keep people safe and strengthen reasons for living. That is why we are appealing to you to support the Lifeline Suicide Prevention Fund.

During 2004/05, Lifeline answered 489,406 calls of which 65 per cent were answered in non-metropolitan areas of Australia. Analysis from Lifeline’s call data base reveals that, in comparison with metropolitan areas, rural communities are using Lifeline’s telephone counselling service for issues which clearly indicate high needs and service gaps.
Lifeline Centres in these regional, rural and remote locations offer vital support for those communities. The current drought has meant that demand for services in these areas has reached unprecedented levels. The communities in regional, rural and remote locations are doing it tough. So are our Lifeline Centres in these areas.
Over half of Lifeline’s Centres are located in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia. Some of these Centres include: Broken Hill and Tamworth in New South Wales, Alice Springs and Darwin in the Northern Territory, Mt Gambier and Port Augusta in South Australia, Bendigo and Gippsland in Victoria, Gladstone and Toowomba in Queensland and Karratha in Western Australia.
Please help Lifeline support Australians doing it tough in isolated, remote and drought affected areas. Donate now to provide much needed funding to Lifeline Centres that work on a daily basis with Australians in regional, rural and remote communities.

Lifeline has 42 Centres around Australia. These Centres are community hubs where volunteers come to work on our 24 hour phone counselling service, in addition to developing and delivering a wide range of support programs for people in their local communities.
The demand for Lifeline Services in all of these communities is far in excess of what each Lifeline Centre is able to raise money for each year. Help your local Lifeline Centre to provide support to people in your local area.
Local programs delivered by each Centre vary and include things such as face to face counseling, financial counselling, suicide prevention programs, youth services, family and mediation services, aged care visitation, indigenous support groups and information, education and support groups.
On average, each of these Lifeline Centres has to raise more than 80% of their operating costs annually just to remain viable. This is to cover the costs of their accommodation, any paid staff and volunteer training costs. Make a difference to the Lifeline Centre that supports your local community.
