Lifeline petition reaches new heights
Last year we launched an online petition calling on the Government to double funding into suicide prevention and, with the help of the Australian community, the Government promised to do just that!
The outpouring of support has been so inspiring, we reached our target of 150,000 signatures and this has led to some incredible results including:
- $2.5m funding for our new crisis text support service,
- the announcement of four new suicide prevention trial sites in rural areas,
- and the COAG announcement of the development of Australia’s first National Suicide Prevention Plan.
We also had the opportunity to present the petition to The Hon Greg Hunt, the Federal Government Minister for Health, and discuss how the Government can further improve the services available for people who are considering suicide.
None of this would have been possible without the support of the Australian public and we are so grateful to everyone who leant their voice to this petition.
