Take the Allphones Chilli Challenge and help Lifeline during O-week
Release Date: 17th February 2015
February is hotting up as a big month for Lifeline, as students around the country chomp on chillies for a good cause.
Lifeline corporate supporter, Allphones will be putting their money where their mouth is during O-week, donating money to Lifeline for every chilli demolished.
Students are invited to eat chillies of varying hotness. Allphones will donate much-needed funds to Lifeline every time a chilli has been consumed.
Lifeline CEO Jane Hayden scored the first donation of the Chilli Challenge by eating an entire chilli.
“Suicide is sadly still the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 44 in Australia.
“Many students attending O-week will have been touched by suicide in some way.
“Money raised will fund our 13 11 14 crisis line as well as our online crisis chat service.
“Even more importantly, if just one person needing help finds out about our confidential 24/7 crisis support, it will make all those burning chilli tongues worthwhile.”
Ms Hayden said Lifeline’s 24-hour crisis support line 13 11 14 answered more than 800,000 calls over the last 12 months and anticipates demands on services in 2015 will be greater than ever with around one million Australians expected to call.
If people aren’t brave enough to take the Chilli Challenge but do want to support Lifeline, they can sign up to a Vodafone postpaid plan at any Allphones store during the Connect for a Cause promotion running from 16th February to 30th April. Allphones will donate $10 for every 12 month postpaid plan and $25 for every 24 month postpaid plan.
“Anyone can take their own Chilli Challenge and make their donation directly to Lifeline - just take a photo/video, share on social media and make a donation at www.allphones.com.au/connectforacause/,” Ms Hayden said.
