Lifeline hails mental health gateway as milestone in digital service promotion
Lifeline has welcomed the launch of the Federal Government’s Digital Mental Health Gateway – Head to Health – as a milestone in digital service promotion.
Lifeline Research Foundation Executive Director Alan Woodward said the online platform empowers people to take control of their mental health and wellbeing.
“Head to Health is a one-stop shop for credible mental health services and resources, developed and designed by people with lived experience and numerous other experts,” Mr Woodward said.
“Lifeline is pleased to be included as a national crisis support service on the platform, and understands the lifesaving benefits of giving people easy access to digital services – it’s the vision we were founded on more than 50 years ago.
“Head to Health is about helping people to find the right information and resources for them, and letting them know about the digital services available, no matter where you are or what you’re struggling with.
“It allows you to choose the free or low-cost support options that you are most comfortable with. This includes Lifeline’s 24/7 crisis support and suicide prevention services, as well as the many other online supports, low-cost apps or online courses listed on the site.”
Mr Woodward commended the Federal Government for the collaborative approach taken to developing the online platform following the Roundtable on Tele-Web Reform hosted by Lifeline in February 2016.
“Inviting leadership from a core group of people with lived experience in the design of Head to Health, as well as consulting with various experts, researchers and practitioners, has ensured issues such as accessibility, language and useability have been properly considered,” Mr Woodward said.
“As such, the gateway is more likely to be useful to everyday Australians – I wish to thank the Federal Health Minister the Hon. Greg Hunt MP for leading the way in taking this approach.”
