My name is Denise and my Story is that on the 3rd September 2011, I lost my beautiful Niece who was 18 Years old. She took her life in the backyard of her Parent’s House, this was in Mt Isa. She had everything going for her and her Mother was a proactive promoter at the time with Centacare organising Suicide Prevention Day in Mt Isa. Little did she know that the week after she would be talking about her own daughter who took her life to Suicide.
My Beautiful Niece’s name was Yulillla, which means in our Gooreng Gooreng Language “Butterfly”.
It is nearly a Year, and I think about the hurt and turmoil of her doing this, and how it has impacted on her Mother and Father and Brothers and Sister, and of course all of the Extended Family, my Parents, Aunties and Uncles and her Cousins and Nieces and Nephews, and it goes on. No closing of this at the moment as you can understand. I am still not fully over the Grief and Loss of such a vibrant Beautiful life.
Her Story – She was in a Domestic Violence relationship and his constantly harassing her via text, facebook, phoning and trying continuously to control her for months, then on the drastic day she decided she had enough. A neighbour found her, None of her Family knew she was in the back yard until later that day.
It is very important that you Young People who are feeling that low within yourself to seek help, whether to ring Telephone Counselling with Lifeline or ring a mate or ring Mum she will understand and help you. If you a planning Suicide please make a Safety plan, sit down and make a list that you will ring this person first before ever thinking of Suicide, there is help out there for you to get through this. Or you could go to the Mental Health at your Local Hospital they will help you.
