Lifeline South East (SA) Inc. contributes to a 24 hour Telephone Crisis Support, Information and Referral service that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
LivingWorks ASIST Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
Lifeline South East (SA) Inc. provides LivingWorks ASIST workshops where all kinds of caregivers – professional workers, volunteers, employees, friends and family – can learn suicide first aid.
LivingWorks ASIST workshops move beyond suicide awareness to provide participants with the skills to work with persons at risk, increase their immediate safety and link to further help.
LivingWorks ASIST training applies in everyday situations with family, friends, co workers, team mates as well as in professional roles or volunteering.
LivingWorks ASIST trainers complete a 5 day Living Works train the trainer course. Living Works, founded in Canada in 1983, is now available across the world.
There are other LivingWorks programs that are companions to LivingWorks ASIST and seek to increase awareness and explore ways the whole of community might respond.

Care Ring is a free friendship service providing daily personal telephone contact to persons living alone. Care Ring provides a security and safety check through a cheerful “Hello” from someone who cares. Care Ring is supported by Mount Gambier City Council and Grant District Council.
Calls are made six days a week between 8.00am – 11.00am. If the phone is not answered within a reasonable period an emergency contact person will be phoned to check on the well being of the Care Ring client.
The service is an excellent support for:
- Those who are isolated or elderly
- Those who have temporary or long term health problems
- Those who may have restricted contact with the community

Suicide Bereavement Support Group
The Suicide Bereavement Support Group is supported by Mount Gambier City Council and Grant District Council. The Group is open to adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one through Suicide.
The Group is run by trained and accredited group facilitators supported by the Best Practice Standard and Guidelines developed specifically for use by Suicide Bereavement Groups through the Commonwealth Best Practice Project (Department of Health and Ageing) 2009.
The meetings provide a safe and confidential opportunity for people to talk about their grief, to gain an understanding and to learn from others.

Limestone Coast Regional Gambling Help Service
The Limestone Coast Regional Gambling Help Service encompasses the service area of Keith, Naracoorte, Penola, Bordertown (Tatiara) Wattle Range, Grant and Mount Gambier.
Services offered include:
- Financial Counselling
- Therapeutic Counselling
- Information on barring options, current resources, self help materials and family protection orders
- Referrals including those to the State-wide Gambling Therapy Service, 24 hour Gambling Help Line, CALD services
All Gambling Help services are free. No fees or charges apply.
Funding is provided through contributions from the South Australian Government, Australian Hotels Association, Club SA and Sky City Casino – through the Gamblers Rehabilitation Fund.
Limestone Coast Regional Gambling Help Service has been operating in the South East of South Australia for more than 20 years and has helped and supported many individuals and families affected by problem gambling.

The aim of financial counselling is to not only work with clients to resolve their current financial difficulties but to increase the client’s money management knowledge and skills so they have an improved ability to manage their financial affairs in the future.
Financial Counselling Services are delivered by counsellors qualified or working toward qualification in the Diploma of Financial Counselling.

Since 1995 Lifeline South East has been involved in training and support services to Mount Gambier Prison. The work builds on the recommendations for the prevention of prison suicide and self harm as comprehensively outlined in the 1990 review of prisons in the UK.
Programs that have been established include:
- A prisoner peer support program called “The Listeners”
- Orientation Training in Suicide Awareness and Intervention for all new prison staff
- Orientation Training in Communication Skills for all new prison staff
- Ongoing regular staff professional development in Suicide Prevention
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) for staff and prisoners
- Access to other Lifeline services for prisoners such as gambling counselling

Mount Gambier & District Suicide Prevention Network
Lifeline South East is a foundation member of the Mount Gambier Suicide Prevention Network established in 2003. Lifeline South East currently acts as Secretariat for the Mount Gambier & District Suicide Prevention Network.
