7pm to midnight AEST

When the service is available a button will appear below letting you know the service is online. You can click it to commence a chat.

We’ve made some changes
To better help you, Lifeline has updated the appearance and initial questions of our Online Chat service. To speak to a Crisis Supporter click the blue 'Lifeline Crisis Chat' button and click 'connect'. The Lifeline Online Chat service continues to operate as usual.

Accessing the service

  • Step 1: Read the Website terms of use. By using this service you accept these terms.
  • Step 2: Click the blue 'Start Chat' button (note: only shown during operating hours)​
  • Step 3: You'll be asked for some personal details, these are optional and you can choose to remain anonymous.
  • Step 4: You'll be connected to the next available Crisis Supporter

  • Short-term support for people who are feeling overwhelmed and having difficulty coping ​or staying safe
  • Real-time using ‘chat’ technology​
  • Confidential one-to-one support with a trained Lifeline Online Crisis Supporter​
