What they do

StandBy provides free and confidential telephone, text, and/or face-to-face support for anyone in Australia bereaved or impacted by a suicide death or attempt.

When you contact StandBy, a coordinator can:

  • Speak with you over the phone
  • Help you decide what sort of help would best meet you or your organisation’s needs
  • Assist you with accessing local and national support services
  • Offer in-person support at your home, school, or workplace
  • Provide tips and resources for supporting yourself and others who’ve been impacted by suicide.

Who they're for

StandBy is for anyone impacted by a suicide death or attempt regardless of when the loss or experience occurred.

This includes:

  • Individuals, family members, and friends
  • Schools, communities, and workplaces
  • Witnesses and first responders
  • Service providers.

StandBy’s services are informed by those with lived experience of bereavement and tailored to each individual’s or group’s needs.


How to contact

StandBy can be reached via telephone, text, and online contact form between 6am and 10pm seven days a week.

*StandBy’s text service is for people in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.
