In addition to Crisis Support, Lifeline also provides free specialist phone and online counselling services for men and people affected by suicide who are aged 15 and older.
Counselling is a process that helps people explore issues, gain clarity and develop strategies for change. It can be a single conversation to address an immediate need or take place over a series of sessions.
How is counselling different to crisis support?
Counselling is provided by experienced, professional counsellors. They have tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or counselling and have extensive counselling experience.
In addition to providing a 24/7 single session counselling, you may be eligible for up to 4 30-minute sessions with a counsellor. These are booked in advance and held by phone or video call – based on your preference.
These additional sessions can be useful to work through specific issues more thoroughly, help with building skills, and provide continuity through speaking to the same counsellor.
